PANTO PANDEMONIUM!!!!!!! By Imaan.
On Tuesday 9th December and
Thursday 11th December 2014, Ks2 performed an excellent performance
of Panto Pandemonium in front of Ks1 and parents, in the hall at Mersey Vale
Primary school at 9:30am, 1:30pm and 6:00pm.
On Tuesday 9th December 2014
was the dress rehearsal. It took a long time to prepare and learn our lines for
the Christmas play but we managed. It took courage and talent to perform in
front of all those parents. Half-asleep, the parents were woken up by the sound
of the children’s singing. The first scene was amazing. The main characters
were played by: Arran (11), (Izzy) Izabbela (10), Harry (10) and Sumayya (10), Maria,
who played the wicked witch, (10), Jack (10), Leighton (10) and Imaan, who
played as the Good Fairy, (11), and it must have took a lot practice to get
those lines right!
The first scene was all about Arran,
Harry, Izzy and Sumayya at their school waiting for their teacher, Mrs.
Bradley, to take them to the theatre. But when their teacher was said to be ill
a supply teacher, Miss. Deeds, played by Maria, took them to the theatre. She
was actually the wicked witch! Her servants Spotty, Leighton, and Grotty, Jack,
were following her lead by trying to capture those ‘horrible’ children so they
could rule Pantoland.
The
2nd scene was about when those children met the good fairy and she
explained who she was and that the wicked witch had stolen all the good magic
from three very special things which are: the goose that lays the golden eggs
from Jack and the beanstalk, the magic lamp from Aladdin and the glass slipper
from Cinderella.
The 3rd scene was about the
story Jack and the beanstalk, the 7 dwarfs and the giant. The 4th
scene was about audience participation with boo and hisses. The 5th
scene was about Cinderella, the ugly step sisters and the glass slipper. The 6th
scene was about Aladdin, the magic lamp and the children. The final scene was
about the good fairy defeating the wicked witch once and for all. They lead the
wicked witch and all the other baddies into the magic light!!!
Panto Pandemonium by Saskia
On Tuesday 11th of December, a play called Panto pandemonium, was performed. The parents were woken up by the sound of the children, in Ks2, first song “welcome.” Near the end of the first song the four children, Arran, Izabella (Izzy), Harry and Sumayya, walked on confidently.
It took a lot of courage and confidence to walk onto the stage and either sing or talk; they were amazing actors and they had fabulous singing voices. Imaan, the good fairy in the play, was good at acting and had and amazing singing voice.
Nafisa and Rowa, Boo and Hiss, helped the audience participate in the performance by making them boo and hiss; they made us sing a song called Panto pandemonium.
The wicked witch, Maria, was despicable and tried to rule Pantoland with her servants Spotty and Grotty, Leighton and Jack.
The songs were full of joy and you could tell the cast enjoyed acting and singing. Even the kids who didn’t have a speaking part enjoyed it.In the end the stories went back to normal andthe witch, with her slaves, turned good. We ended with a song called “goodbye” which was the same tune as “welcome.”
Moo, the front half of the cow, and tail, the back half of the cow, finally found each other :)

The Eco Committee would like your help. We want to make sure, like School Council, that the new playground is FUN. But also, we want to make sure we are thinking about the environment while we design our new playground. So, Mersey Vale,
1. How can we attract more wildlife to our playground?
2. How can we use recycled materials on our new playground?
3. How can we make our playground more suitable for outdoor lessons?
Please comment below! Or add a postit to the wall in the office area.

Subordinate Superstars!
There are different ways we can start a sentence
with a subordinate clause:
1.
Use a conjunction (eg As,
Although, If…)
2. Use an adverbial phrase (ask
yourself how, where or when something
happened)
3.
Bring the verb to the front (useful in
an action sentence for dramatic effect!)
4.Start with a feeling
(Terrified,….Excited,…)
Now redraft these sentences using one of the above skills!
We
quickly positioned our shields over the side of the boat so that we were
protected from the monks’ incoming arrows.
We
finally reached the monastery.
‘Ari the Brutal’, our fearless beserker, swung
his axe at the monk and knocked him down dead instantly.

Early Summer 793AD
Diary Account 2
Dear
Diary,
Today I am here at the settlement of rural
Strandebarn, the night before I venture to Lindisfarne.
Using all our power and strength, we skilfully
built the Serpent longship with a construction time of 8-9 months. As there
were no craftsmen to construct our vessel, building this Serpent longship unfortunately
it took nine long months, nine long months that felt like a WHOLE YEAR! The problem with Strandebarm is that it had no
farms around to provide sheep’s wool to make the huge white sail.
I
was furious! Despite the big sail taking a long time to construct, it will
however help make my vessel travel faster.
I
decided to get a very experienced navigator as he would guide me to Lindisfarne.
I also decided to get a carpenter as he would construct a very high quality
ship he would also know how to treat the wood.
Thinking
very hard, I had chosen to take route one as it looked quicker then route two.
It
feels like I have taken a big step in my life as I have never been on journey
like this before on the other hand I am very excited because I feel like I’ll
win.
The End
We are ready to set sail! The next few diary entries...by Amaan
Early summer 793AD Diary (entry 2)
Dear diary,
I am ready, and have nearly built my timber dragon
longship, however, I have still got to make the sail. Luckily, I have recruited
a sail-maker that can make the sail faster. Unfortunately, my sail will take a
period of time but, what is good about the sail is that when we set sail on the
salty sea, the wind will blow and the sail will push the large ship further
across the Northern Sea. As I took the loan, I can use it to get my soft,
woollen sail built quicker. Because my sail-maker can’t build the sail and the
boat by herself, I told her that I will hire some craftsmen with some of the
loan to come and help her. After a couple of days, hopefully the craftsmen will
peacefully come to Kaupang where I and my crew are waiting.
(Diary entry 3)
After a few hardworking days, my craftsmen finally
have come, and they are now going to build my last few parts of the almost
built longship. So, I told the craftsmen to start building my longship, but they
replied and said, “First you must agree that when we get the treasure you must
give a share of it to us”. After they had said that, I told them that they
could have a fair bit of the treasure.
Diary
entry 4
When I had agreed to the craftsmen, they started
working very solid and swiftly on my dragon longship. But these craftsmen are
not just any old and the same as anyone else because, they asked me if they
could put layers on my ship so it could be stronger than the others and that
was what made me happy about these craftsmen.
All of my
crew are working hard or, they are training to work hard when we arrive at Lindisfarne.
I have got a cleaver sail-maker to make the sail or help to mend the smooth
running ship on the way, just in case of damages on the ship plus, I have got a
smart Navigator that will show us where the quickest route is to Lindisfarne. I
have also got a muscular, brave Berserker that will hopefully kill most of the
poor monks and nuns when we have completely built the vessel.

Homework 3rd October Who can build the best longship?
OK Year Six, we all now know our challenge and we've decided where we will travel to to build our longships! Now, you must construct the most robust, menacing looking ship you can, in order to carry yourself and your Viking crew to Lindisfarne. Good luck!
PS See me if you need a loan of any of the materials on the 'you will need' section. I won't make you pay it back ;
Viking Quest Diary entry one
February 793 AD
Dear diary,
Today in winter, I woke up at 6:00 in the morning because the
chief gathered us all for a meeting. The meeting was about a country to raid called
Lindisfarne and the cheif announced,
“Without perishing, the
first person to go to Lindisfarne loot the monastery and be back with treasure,
will be heavily rewarded,”
The cheif whispered to me,
“Will you be happy to
take the loan or not?”
Deciding with confidence, I answered,
“Yes I would like to
take the loan,” I
took the loan for my crew, parts for my ship and also for my scrumptious meal.
Due to the fact that Kaupang is a poular trading centre with
a busy harbour, I have chosen it for my settlement.
I have chosen Strider for my long ship because it holds a
high amount of crew which is 50 members and also takes 8-9 months of
construction time.
Quickly, I chose strong, hairy, brutal and barbaric men, a
navigator, carpenter and a sail-maker for my vicious crew.

793AD
DEAR DIARY,
This
morning, at the break of dawn and waking up at 6:00 in the morning, off our
timber beds we went down the broken stairs to eat raw meat. After the raw meat,
the chief wanted to announce a speech to us all. He gathered us all around him,
and he began the speech with his inmost and loudest voice, “All of you will go
to Lindisfarne pick a town and raid it. The first man back with the treasure
will be tremendously rewarded!”
I was
confident about this but, I thought to myself, I could perish. After the speech
was over, the chief came up to me. He
generously whispered to me saying, “Will you accept my loan of silver
coins?” After thinking very hard, I decided to take the loan for my crew
and longship. Now I am thinking about my crew and deciding which settlement I
am going to opt for. After thinking, during dinner, I chose Kaupang. I chose
Kaupang because there are lots of trees, which means I could build a 30 metre
longship and which holds 50 crew members.

Viking Quest Diary enrty
February 7th 793 AD
Dear
Diary,
Just after sunset, on a windy day in Norway, our chief
scattered us all around the posh room.
“Alright then Vikings,
I have heard of a little Island called Lindisfarne it belongs to monks and nuns
and it’s their beloved monastery. He announced to everyone, I would like all of
you to raid the monastery. My
eyes skimmed around the room. What I could see wasn’t good. “The first one of
you to build their ship, loot the monastery and voyage back without perishing
would be heavenly rewarded”.
With every one rushing
back, thinking about how they are going to build their ship I was the only one standing there hoping I wasn’t going
to perish. The chief asked
me and my friends very quietly if we would like to take the loan.
Thinking very hard, my mind about to explode, I decided to take the loan that
was generously given to me and my freinds. My friends Elena, Catla, Burte and
Astrid didn’t take the money because they would have to give it back in full
return. I took the silver even though I had to give it back in full return.
Getting a navigator to help me on the way that was why I took the loan. Another
reason why I took the loan is because I needed to get timber wool ect to build
my long ship where ever I was going to stay.
Once everyone had
chosen where they are going to stay I had chose to stay in Strandbarne because
it was heavily wooded.

Viking Diary Entry One
793AD
17th February
Dear diary,
This
morning, at the break of dawn, the chief gathered us around. After our not very pleasant meal of
raw fish, we were told that our chief had an announcement. Bellowing, he announced
that he has heard of an island called Lindisfarne off the East coast of
England, a very small island with a monastery held on it.
“The first of you to venture to Lindisfarne, loot and
plunder the monastery and not perish to return to Norway with your haul will be
richly rewarded!” Anxiously looking around, I could see the excitement and
disappointment on people’s faces; some people loved a good quest but other
people, sometimes like myself, did not want to die on this journey.
To help us on our death’ sentence journey, the chief
generously offered us a loan. This loan had to be repaid to the chief off your
haul that you return with. Pondering deeply, I decided that I should not take
the loan as I do not want to lose a precious piece of silver. I have heard that
my fellow warriors such as Valgard and Odd have taken the loan. Idiots!
To help us on our journey, the chief offered us the choice
from three settlements where we would build our longship, assemble our skilled
crew and set sail. These three choices were the northern coast of Froya, the
southern cost of Kaupang and the Middle East town of Stranderbaum. Due to the
fact that this settlement was known for its fearless berserkers, I chose Froya.
Wow! To be the first man back with the treasure, I’m going
to do everything in my power. This may be my big chance to impress the chief.
“Before we all leave this gathering I just want to warn
you that if you fail you will be banished and sent into exile but if you
succeed you will become a legend in Viking history. Now friends and foes, this
gathering is officially over.”
Tomorrow I construct then venture and then I return to be
a legend in Viking history. Now we will see what the future holds.

The Blue Bird
In a bear leafless tree, on a windy night, a blue bird was
busy competing with her neighbours . Flying to the ground, to and fro, she was
collecting sticks, twigs and feathers, clutching them in her claws. Even though
the tired blue bird had been working for half an hour, her pitiful nest was
getting smaller and smaller!
Exhausted, she flew back to her nest and saw it was getting tinier
and tinier...
SPLAT! SPLASH!
“Ooooo! Look at that beautiful blue bird.”
“Yes, but it is yellow!”
Unfortunately the bird had landed in a pot of yellow paint.
